On to the Old School Video!!
For a long time I believed the dogma that doing huge amounts of cardio was they way to go for weight loss. I have now found that to be seriously wrong. I should have been keeping track of all the articles I’ve been reading and podcasts I’ve been listening to about it but I wasn’t looking for information that would challenge my belief about cardio. The more I listened and read, ignoring those people who aren’t actually in good shape, the more I realized that all the true experts were saying the same thing. To much cardio is a waste of time. Resistance training and short high intensity interval training is the best way to go. So about 5 weeks ago I changed my routine. I had been doing 3 days resistance training and 3 days of cardio. The Cardio consisted of 1 day high intensity interval, 1 day hills, and 1 day of 50-60 minutes of steady state cardio. I changed my cardio routine to 2 days. Those 2 days were both different types of high intensity interval training for 20-30 minutes each. I started seeing the results within a week. I had been losing about 1lb-1.5lbs per week. I am now losing about 2.5-2.8lbs per week spending one less day in the gym and less time in the gym when I am there. I do have one video to for you guys about this topic. This guy is great. Check out some of his other videos. You will see interviews with some of the top personal trainers int he country.
Now the Old School Track!!
I admit that I felt a little weird writing this post. It didn’t seem like something my manliness would allow, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Since I started seriously working out again last month I started watching the show. I downloaded the last season as well on iTunes. I love watching the exercise clips. The inspiration I get from it is seeing these extremely overweight people working through the pain to do a few more lifts or a finish a high intensity interval on the treadmill. While I’m exercising I use various mind tricks to take my mind of the actual exercise so I don’t focus on how tired I am or the pain when I’m lifting. I’ve started using images of those extremely overweight people to push me to do a few more lifts or increase the speed on the eliptical/treadmill for my intervals. If those people who are lot weaker and much heavier than I am can do it I should be able to as well. Other mind tricks I use is the “I can do anything for one minute” I use one mintue for my high intensity intervals and when I start dragging I’ll tell myself “You can do anything for one minute”. Fellas, you can also use that when you need to prolong certain moments with your significant other.
You know what it’s time for now!
I created a post last month about two Wii Fitness Games. Wii Golds Gym Cardio and EA Sports Active. I’ve had Wii Golds Gym Cardio for about a month now and it’s great. Actually better than I expected. The boxing gives you a great workout. You will be sore the next morning. Part of what’s great is that they give you a choice of creating a workout for you or going a-la-carte. The exercises get more complex as you go along. It has other exercises that can be used with the Wii Fitness Board if you have one or exercises that don’t require it. Those exercises are addons. The core of the prorgram is the boxing. This is a great choice for people who can’t get to a gym or need an alternative when you can’t get to the gym. I have my Daughter and Son doing it every other day. It’s a good way to get them away from the computer and TV.
Now for the old school track!
I have been on a very Low Carb eating plan for about two weeks now. I’ve done it before with good results. One of the problems is always what to do when running late or you just can’t get to a good low carb food option. One of the things you are supposed to do on eating plan is not skip meals. 4-6 meals per day is better than 1-3. This article has some good tips on what to and what not to eat at fast food restaurants. It has specific information on McDonald’s, Burger King, and Subway. The thing about some of the salads surprised me.
Now for the old school track!
I’m a huge Star Trek and MMO Fan. I recently took a break from World of Warcraft. The idea of playing as a Starship Captain is great. If they do this right it could be huge. The problem with MMO’s is that they are huge time sucks. I imagine this MMO won’t be any different. Piloting your ship doing quests and battlling borg and klingons will lead to hours upon hours of time gone by without you noticing. I remember when I was younger and would sometimes play video games for 15-24 hours at a time. I can’t do that anymore, but the temptation is always right there. I’m sure I’ll get sucked in, at least for a few months.
And of course the old school track!!
Add this to the list of things that are possible but probably not a good idea to actually implement. If Jurassic Park showed us anything, it’s that implementing technology just because you can will lead to children being eaten by dinosaurs.
Now the best part of every post!!
I’ve heard a lot about Noby Noby Boy, but I’m not sure what the big deal is. It does seem like it might be a good time waster on my iPod Touch. The game play does include two of my favorite activities. Eating and Pooping.
Now the old school track!!
I had a business meeting this morning with a social networking marketing consultant. I arrived a little early so she gave me a tour of her multi-media partners studios. We got to the 2nd part of the tour and she introduced me to Daddy-O. To say I was shocked was an understatement. I don’t think she thought I would know who he was. On a side note the consultant is a middle-aged white lady from the Atlanta Suburbs. How cool is that. It really makes me feel good to see that. Just more evidence that we are becoming more and more connected to each other without regards to anything but the person. Back to my great morning with Daddy-O. He was a great guy, really into his work and willing to talk about anything. He wasn’t part of the main meeting, but we went back down to multimedia studio after the meeting was over and my colleague and I had a chance to talk to him for about 45 minutes. For those that don’t know Daddy-O grew up in Brooklyn, NY. I grew up Queesn, NY. We talked about his take on the current state Hip-hop in Atlanta, his vision for the future, his transformation from Brooklyn to where he is now. Anyone following this blog knows my love of Old-School Hip-Hop. I was thinking about doing a post on the amount of East Coast Hip-Hop artists that have made Atlanta there home. After my meeting today I’m definetly going to do it. Daddy-O is a cool cat.
Battlestar Galactica had it’s final episode last night. Very good ending, not great but very good. So the question becomes, “now what do i watch?” I already don’t watch a lot of TV, but with Battlestar Galactica going off air I find myself wanting to have a fill in for that spot. The shows I watch or watched on a regular basis are:
Battlestar Galactica – Gone
Burn Notice – Reruns
Lost – Live
Fringe – Reruns
Terminator – Sarah Connor Chronicles – Live
Family Guy – Live
American Dad – Live
Simpsons – Live
Dancing with the Stars – Live
Eureka – Reruns
Dexter – Reruns
Weeds – Reruns
Rome – Gone
4400 – Gone
I have 5 shows, I’m not including Dancing with the stars because Lawrence Taylor will be gone soon and me with him, that I can watch. That doesn’t seem like much. Oh well, I guess I’ll have more time to blog.
Now my favorite part. Old School!
