With the end of Battlestar Galactica I have a whole in my Television viewing schedule. More on my Television watching habits in an upcoming post. There are two upcoming Battlestar Galactica spin offs.

I don’t have a real post today, but that means you get 2 old school tracks.
I’m a 43 year old out of shape guy trying to get back in shape. I go in cycles. I’ll get really into it for 4-6 months get fit then fall off. I usually didn’t worry about it because I could always bounce back and see good results withing 2-3 weeks of starting the cycle again. Not this time. I think age is finally catching up with me. It’s taking a lot longer now. My routine is to cut way back on carbs/refined sugar and hit the gym 3-4 times a week, park far away from my destination, take the stairs whenever possible, etc… Since my kids refuse to go outside unless I make them (more on that in a later post) I got Wii fit for the family hoping that I could also benefit from it. I tried it a few times and found it not challenging enough. It has a lot of fun stuff that will make you move, but not really challenge you. I’m the type of guy who will look over at the person next to me and try to do better. I know, I have issues. However, the kids love Wii fit so it was a worthwhile purchase for that reason, but it hasn’t helped me. It looks like they may be making some Wii exercise programs for people like me who want to really hit it hard. These two products look promising:

I’m going to try the Gold’s Gym product for no other reason than that’s the gym I use. In case you didn’t know you can get a contract free cheap rate through your company’s Health Care Service. I’ll create follow-up posts after I start using the program.

I got a text this morning form Amazon saying they had the full Guitar Hero World Tour – Band Kit on sale for $120.00. That is $70.00 off the normal price. Here is a link to the Amazon page. I thought about it all day and finally decided it was a deal I couldn’t pass up. This is something the whole family can use and will. The kids have a week off coming up the last week in March and DJ Hero will be available in June. The more I think about it the more excited I am. I will probably setup the video and do a family music video. Joystiq also has a write up on it.

Let me start by saying, I have only watched one other season of Dancing with the stars. The one with Emmitt Smith. I lived in the Dallas Metro area for 9 years, Frisco Texas, and came to love the Cowboys. Smith was in his heyday while I was there. So when Emmitt was on Dancing With the Stars I had to watch. I figured it would be 2 maybe 3 weeks then he would be gone. I don’t really watch any reality shows, other than Run’s House and Salt&Pepa. I actually looked forward to watching the show each week. My wife got into as well and it became a topic of conversation for us all through the week. When Emmitt actually won, it was a great wrap up to what had been a fun run for my wife and I. As I thought would happen, I had no interest in the next season. I tried, but without that pull of a guy to root for I couldn’t get into it. When I found out that Lawrence Taylor was going to be on the show I was thrilled. I was born in Queens NY, and the Giants were my first team. I thought I could capture that fun again, sadly it isn’t going to happen. Lawrence Taylor is no Emmitt. He is bad, really bad. He will be gone 2nd or 3rd week for sure. They only way he stays is if they rig it to keep guys like me watching. I have a passing interest in David Alan Grier, but not enough to keep me watching. Maybe the first week was a fluke and LT actually does have some hidden skills. Nah… He is terrible.
Finally, vindication. For many years I’ve gotten really bad headaches when the barometric pressure changes quickly. I’ve always thought it was a weired allergy and some people always told me it was some plant or pollen, but I knew that wasn’t it. This study proves that weather changes can generate severe headaches. The recommendation, taking daily beta blockers, isn’t something I’m going to do. It is a good feeling to have my theory proven correct.
I love Old School Hip-Hop and R&B. Earth Wind&Fire is one of my favorites. I can’t tell you how many times I listened to Boogie Wonderland when I was younger. So, when I saw this on 1UP. I was excited, then pissed. As you can see from my earlier post, There will be a Guitar Hero DJ Hero that will let me live out my DJ Jazzy Jeff fantasy, now there is this Rock Band thing. Which system do I buy? As of right now I’m still leaning towards DJ Hero, but if Rock Band keeps going and gets bands like Parliment, Commodores, Average White Band etc… I might change my mind.
I saw this article on TechCrunch about a startup that is offering yelp like services for locating legal marijuana shops. This is a topic I have thought about a lot. Why is marijuana illegal but alcohol is legal? Marijuana isn’t addictive, Alcohol is. Drunk driving causes how many fatalities each year in this country, how many families ruined? I could go on an on about this. I drink occasionally. Alcohol shouldn’t be illegal and neither should Marijuana. You will hear, “it’s a gateway drug” to that I say, how many of you have had a joint or 2 in your life? Have then stepped through the gateway to other drugs? I get mad just thinking about this. I won’t do pot since it’s illegal, but it’s the height of hypocrisy for Marijuana to be illegal but Alcohol is not.
I do have to give the new administration some credit. They have said they aren’t going to be going after the medicinal clinics in the states that have legalized Marijuana for medical purposes. They have also said they are going to move some of the resources dedicated to Marijuana enforcement to other areas.
I saw this on the MSNBC home page. it seems like more and more conservative Christian Pastors are preaching that God wants us to have great sex (within marriage ofcourse) Maybe this will help some of the married Gals who are afflicted with the “good girl syndrome” that is where even when they are married a little voice tells them they shouldn’t really be enjoying sex as much as they do and makes them feel guilty. I looked further into MSNBC and found they had an even longer piece by a more famous Conservative Christian Pastor.
This is interesting to me because I was raised a Baptist, went to a southern baptist boarding school, (I was really good at old testament scripture) and went two sercives ALOT. At this point in my life I beleive in trinity and accepting Jesus Christ as your personal saviour, but I don’t beleive the stuff that almost all established religions talk about. The God I belive in is a fair God. How would it be fair to a Buddhist kid in Thailand or Palestenian kid in the territories to be judged by the same standars as I am. They have far less, if not 0 in some cases, opportunity to hear about Jesus. Are those kids going to hell? I personally don’t think so. I’ll climb down off my soapbox on this topic for now.
I don’t really like shooters, but this game looks like it’s all about mindless carnage. I think we can all agree that mindless video game killing is good for the soul.
